Centrifugation

Centrifugation

Centrifugation is a casting technique where centrifugal force is used to fill a mould with molten metal. This process is particularly useful for small, complex parts, as it ensures even distribution of the metal in the mould.

Centrifugation process :

  • Preparing the mould : The mould is attached to a rotating disc.
  • Rotation: The mould is rotated at high speed.
  • Metal casting : The molten metal is poured into the mould. Centrifugal force propels the metal into all the cavities of the mould.

Advantages of centrifugation :

  • Uniformity : Ensures even metal distribution.
  • Note: Ideal for fine, intricate detail.
  • Efficiency : Reduces defects such as air bubbles and inclusions.

Common applications:

  • Jewellery : Used to create detailed, delicate jewellery.
  • Industry: Used in the manufacture of precision mechanical parts.
