Wax injection

Wax injection

L'wax injection is a fundamental technique in the luxury jewellery manufacturing process, particularly in fine jewellery. Used primarily in the lost-wax casting method, it enables precise, detailed models of jewellery to be created before they are cast in precious metal. This technique is appreciated for its ability to faithfully reproduce complex designs, guaranteeing high-quality results.

The wax injection process

The process begins with the creation of a rubber or silicone mould. This mould is made from a master model, often sculpted by hand or produced using cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printing. Once the mould is ready, it is used to produce wax copies of the master model.

The wax, usually paraffin or microcrystalline waxes, is heated until it becomes liquid. It is then injected into the mould under pressure, filling in all the fine details of the design. Once the wax has cooled and solidified, the mould is opened, revealing a wax replica of the desired piece of jewellery.

Advantages of wax injection

  • Precision: The technique makes it possible to reproduce extremely fine and complex details, which are essential for luxury jewellery.
  • Time savingWax injection enables several copies of the same design to be produced quickly, speeding up the production process.
  • FlexibilityThis technique is suitable for a wide variety of designs and sizes, making it ideal for customisation and made-to-measure orders.

Luxury jewellery applications

In the luxury jewellery sector, wax injection is used to create a wide range of jewellery, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Leading jewellery houses use this technique to ensure that each piece is a true work of art, faithful to the original design.

At SMV ThailandWe have mastered the art of wax injection to produce high-quality jewellery. Our experienced craftsmen and cutting-edge techniques ensure that each piece of jewellery is made with unrivalled precision and attention to detail.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about wax injection

What is wax injection in jewellery?

Wax injection is a technique used to create precise replicas of wax jewellery, which are then used in the lost-wax casting process to produce precious metal jewellery.

Why is wax injection important in jewellery?

It is essential for reproducing complex designs with great precision, guaranteeing high-quality jewellery. It also enables several copies of the same design to be produced quickly, which is crucial for mass production.

What types of wax are used for wax injection?

The most commonly used types of wax are paraffin and microcrystalline waxes, because of their ability to capture fine detail and their stability at different temperatures.

How does the wax injection process work?

The process begins with the creation of a mould from a master model. The wax is then heated and injected into the mould under pressure. Once cooled, the solidified wax is removed from the mould, revealing a replica of the wax jewel.
