Cultured pearl

The cultured pearls are timeless jewels of elegance and sophistication. Unlike natural pearls, which form without human intervention, cultured pearls are created through controlled intervention. This process enables us to produce high quality pearls in sufficient quantities to meet global demand.

What is a cultured pearl?

A cultured pearl is a pearl formed inside an oyster or mollusc as a result of the introduction of an irritant by humans. This process is similar to the formation of natural pearls, but is initiated and supervised by pearl culture experts. Cultured pearls can be produced in freshwater or saltwater, each with its own distinct characteristics.

The process of creating cultured pearls

The creation of cultured pearls begins with the insertion of a small piece of mother-of-pearl or other material, called a nucleus, into the mollusc. This nucleus acts as an irritant, causing the mollusc to secrete layers of nacre around it. This nacre, composed of calcium carbonate crystals and conchyoline, gradually covers the nucleus, forming a pearl. The process can take several months to several years, depending on the type of pearl and the environmental conditions.
