The two-tone technique

Two tones

SMV Thailand offers the two-tone technique

The two-tone technique involves combining two metal finishes or colours on the same piece of jewellery, creating an elegant and refined contrast.

At SMV Thailand, we have mastered this technique using different metal alloys or plating, such as yellow gold and silver or rhodium and rose gold.

Thanks to our manufacturing expertise and rigorous quality control, we guarantee perfect harmony between the two tones, offering unique, made-to-measure jewellery that meets our customers' aesthetic expectations.

The two-tone technique

The different stages of 2-tone

1. Design and modelling
The two-tone jewellery design is first created in 3D, taking into account the specific areas where the gold and silver will be applied. This allows the final result to be visualised and the plating stages to be carefully planned.
2. Lost wax casting
The jewel is then cast in brass, a base metal that provides excellent adhesion for the various plating materials. This stage gives the jewel its shape before the surfaces are treated.
3. Initial veneer
The first veneer is generally applied to the entire piece of jewellery. This base defines the first tone of the jewel.
4. Masking and second plating
To create the contrast between the two tones, some parts of the jewel are masked, while others receive a second plating. This ensures a clear separation between the two finishes.
5. Finishing and polishing
Each part of the jewel is carefully polished to ensure a smooth, brilliant transition between the two tones. This polishing enhances the brilliance of the gold- or silver-plated brass.
6. Quality control
Finally, rigorous quality control is carried out to ensure that the veneer is uniform and durable, with no burrs or imperfections between the two finishes.
