E-coating

Introducing e-coating

E-coating is a coating technique electrophoretic which offers lasting, aesthetic protection for metal jewellery.

This modern method deposits a thin, even layer of protective material on metal surfaces, increasing their corrosion resistance and durability.

At SMV Thailand, we use e-coating to ensure that our jewellery retains its sparkle and beauty over time, while meeting the highest quality standards.

The different stages of e-coating

1. Surface preparation
Before e-coating, it is essential to prepare the surface of the jewellery. This includes cleaning, degreasing and polishing to ensure the surface is free of contaminants. A clean surface ensures optimum adhesion of the coating.
2. Immersion in the coating bath
The jewellery is then immersed in an electrophoretic coating bath containing a solution of water and resin. This bath is electrically charged to enable the coating to be deposited uniformly on all surfaces of the jewellery, including hard-to-reach areas.
3. Application of electricity
An electrical charge is applied to attract the resin particles to the jewellery. This electrochemical process ensures that the coating adheres evenly and firmly to the metal surface, creating a continuous protective layer.
4. Hardening
After the coating has been applied, the jewellery is heated in an oven to harden the resin. Baking stabilises the coating, making it resistant to wear, scratches and corrosion. This step also ensures that the coating retains a smooth, even finish.

The advantages of electroplating

Durability

Electroplating provides long-lasting protection against corrosion and wear, extending the life of jewellery.

Aesthetics

This technique produces a smooth, uniform finish that enhances the aesthetic appearance of the jewellery.

Ecological

Electroplating is an environmentally friendly method, using fewer chemicals and generating less waste than other coating techniques.

SMV Thailand answers your questions about electroplating

E-coating, or electrophoretic coating, is a coating method that uses an electrophoretic coating process to produce an electrophoretic coating. electrical charge to apply a thin layer of protective material to a metal surface.

Yes, e-coating is safe for jewellery and poses no risk to the skin when correctly applied and cured.
The durability of e-coating depends on use and maintenance conditions, but it can last for several years with proper care.
E-coating can be applied to most metal jewellery, including gold, silver, bronze and other alloys.
E-coating uses an electrical charge to deposit the coating, providing a uniform and durable application, unlike other methods which can be less uniform or more polluting.

Yes, electroplating can be tinted to obtain different colours, allowing aesthetic customisation of jewellery.
